Then it opens up into to cow country. and so it the section of Sulphur outside of Capitol Reef. But its a lot of extra miles, and there isn't anything dramatic about it. The best stuff is in lower spring canyon, and the. The Winter is very cold in Capitol Reef. Since hiking through Halls Creek Narrows will require you to get wet, going in the winter will likely be very uncomfortable and dangerous. One of the best backcountry hikes in Capitol Reef National Park is Sulphur Creek. This hike is an excellent introduction to canyoneering. We visited Capitol Reef National Park for a quick stop (i.e. one hike!) on our way to backpack in Coyote Gulch a couple of weeks ago. I had never visited Capitol Reef before as it's a bit removed from the other 4 of the Mighty 5 in Utah (Arches National Park, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, and Canyonlands National Park) If you are considering a visit to Capitol Reef National Park, you may want to strongly consider spending a night camping with your dog. In fact, the campground areas are one place where your dog is welcomed with open arms while staying at the park (unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the hiking trails or in the backcountry area) Capitol Reef National Park offers a different take on photography to its 'Mighty 5' siblings. It is true Canyonlands, Arches, Zion and Bryce Canyon are blessed with stunning rock formations that Capitol Reef can't compete with..
